How to Make Envelopes Out of Eco-Friendly Wrapping Paper + Treat Bag

Give your cards and candy gifts some extra flair with decorative envelopes handmade with love. Whether you're looking for a last minute Valentine's Day craft, a creative way to mail your wedding thank you cards, or just want to mail a letter that stands out in the mailbox - this video roundup of three quick and easy DIY envelope tutorials is just the ticket!

P.S. We added an extra little treat bag tutorial to help you wrap small treats and jewelry for your Valentine

DIY Envelope #1 - For Cards

This handmade envelope will fit a 6" x 4" card or letter. Start with a larger square for larger envelopes. Since it doesn't require any tape, glue, or adhesives, this envelope is 100% recyclable and compostable when made with newsprint gift wrap. A great way to reuse wrapping paper or utilize smaller scrap pieces of paper.

DIY Envelope #2 - For Treats

This small rectangular 5.5" x 2.5" envelope is the perfect size for Valentine's and snack-sized treats. Pro Tip: You can always cut a larger sheet of paper to create a bigger envelope if you need to fit a full-sized letter as long as you keep the proportions.

DIY Envelope #3 - Custom Shape for Photo Cards & Odd Sizes

Beautiful photo cards and invitations come in all shapes and sizes, making it difficult to find the right size envelope to fit around it. This DIY Envelope can be custom fit to whatever you plan to put inside. These 7" x 5" wedding thank you cards didn't come with envelopes, so this 5 min craft helped these newlyweds ensure the photos of their special day arrived safe and sound.

Bonus DIY Craft: Treat Bag for Candy and Small Jewelry

Another great way to use small to medium scrap pieces of wrapping paper is to create small decorative bags. These cute DIY paper bags are a quick and easy way to wrap your Valentine's Day Jewelry and small treats. At 2.5" wide, it's the perfect size for earrings and necklaces (or a handful of chocolate kisses).

  • (1) Square Sheet of Wrappily Paper (we used Simian Says + Hypnotic)
  • Twine, Raffia, or Ribbon
  • Glue Stick or Tape

Pro Tip: Make sure you give the glue time to dry before opening the bag or reinforce the bottom with a little tape.
